History of First Christian Church
November 4, 1920 A group of 8 Christians led by Dr. W.R. Howell and Ben Kirbo, attorney, met for the purpose of establishing a Christian Church in Bainbridge, Georgia.
November 25, 1920 Church began meeting in City Hall, then in the County Courthouse.
June 12, 1925 A building was purchased at the corner of Broughton and Clay Streets.
1928 The church called its first full-time minister and built a parsonage next to the church building.
March 1956 The church purchased the present property at 908 South Scott Street.
August 21, 1960 The Educational Wing was completed for worship and Bible School.
1967 A new sanctuary was built to seat 350-400.
April 1992 A kitchen was added to the Educational Wing.
November 2002 A new Office Complex was completed.
Three men have entered the ministry as "Timothys" of First Christian Church.
Four sister churches have been established with the help of First Christian Church.
Our congregation continues in its mission to "know Christ and to make Him known" by reaching out into Bainbridge and the surrounding area with the saving message of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
